Nope! But still, don't do anything THAT drastic!

Well.....let's see....Scott had 4 photos of Hood Canal marine life in the article. One was of a swimming anemone, one was a Vermillion Rockfish, one was of a group of Copper Rockfish. Hmmmm....4 shots.....3 of them have been eliminated....that would leave....what? #-o

Well I'll be darned. I never expected a BABY wolf eel. I had forgotten how pretty they are when they're little. (Not that they're ugly later; it's just more of an acquired taste.)

Pearl one, knit two......

KA-CHING! It is, in fact, a juvenile wolf-eel!

Thanks! I took an entire series of "portraits" of this little guy a couple of years back at Mukilteo. His den was an old rusty pipe laying on the bottom.

OK, so, not to interupt the game, but THIS is also a great sculpin, right? They look like very different fish to me, what with the green skin and orange eyes in Calvin's photograph. I take it they have a wide variation in coloring?

No worries about interrupting the game - learning about these fish is what the game is all about!!

Yes, those are BOTH shots of Great Sculpins. Sculpins are masters of disguise, having different colorations to make themselves more invisible. (although it doesn't always work!)

You learn to ID them through body features and markings, NOT coloration!!

So, uh, I'm socialized to play hard to get, but I am >< this close to throwing myself at you and begging for more eyes. It may not look like many people are playing, but I bet they are, but just aren't willing to look dumb by guessing online. (Some of us are without even reasonable restraint.)

And you guys have been sooooooo helpful for my fish ID skillz. I'm learning to look at shape and patterns around the eyes, rather than colors. See? What Janna says is sinking in.

All I need is another eye, a remote disable to Sounder's computer, and I'll be complete!

Thank you,

dd

number 30 isn't a ling. You have the correct phylum, though.
