Next CW Dive 4/14/07 Edmonds!

Post by nwscubamom »

Mark your calendars now! Saturday, April 14th, 2007

Celebrate Earth Day a week early and join us for a potluck/BBQ/Survey day at the famous Edmonds UW Park! The currents are very nice that day (yes, there can be monster current at EUP!)

We'll supply the BBQ, you bring potluck munchies and your own grub to grill. We'll also have a camp stove with hot water for cocoa (I'll try to remember the mini-marshmallows!).

If you're a beginner surveyor, that's fine! Experienced and newbies are all welcome! We'll have ID books and folks on hand to help, along with survey forms and pencils. You might want to bring your own chair for lazying around between dives.

More info:

Cross your fingers we'll have good weather!

I'll be there at least for one dive (got to get to work that evening). Let me know my assignment and I'll bring whatever you need-forms, food, BBQ grill, whatever.

I've put it on our calendar. Tidal exchange is a consideration that day though. Last time I was at EUP I was swept in a little current stream headed for Vashion Is. while Diver C was taking a picture. :pale:

Yeah, don't misunderstand - when I say currents are 'nice' that day, I mean they're MINOR that day. Very small exchange, good day to dive the park! That's why we planned it for that particular day.

Looking forward to seeing many of you!

Be sure to say the word if you think you're coming. We can get a more accurate tally as the day draws closer. I just wanted to put it on your radar.

Very good! Topside help is always appreciated too....someone to keep the BBQ running, hold keys, whatever! Sounds like fun for the gang to run around the beach there. Let's hope we have nice weather.

It was a FANTASTIC turnout for the day!!!

We had 32 people show up, and 22 of those went diving. The BBQ got a workout and there were plenty of munchies to go around.

Image

We rounded up a total of 23 surveys in the park on Saturday. We had 7 new participants who completed surveys – Don Noviello, Carol Schroder, John Cipriano, Maren Stenmark, Tim Stenek, Jeff Warren, and Scott Feucht. This is what we like to see!! Was it tough surveying while dodging flying Cabezon?

Photos of the day here:

Of particular note was a CPR attempt on a dead tubesnout - detailed photos of the rescue effort by following the link above. :crybaby:

Thanks to everyone who participated, topside, underwater and in between, for making the day a huge success! Well, except for the Tubesnout, I guess.

I can say it was truly difficult doing mouth-to-snout breathing. We got out the DAN O2 kit immediately, with the intention of administering oxygen, but when we discovered Tim still had it all in its original plastic wrapping, unopened, we decided to skip the O2 and just raz Tim about the newness of his O2 kit instead. :)
