Mel, Eric and I were diving Cove ll this morning at about 8:30 AM and saw two Six Gills at 109 ft. what an experience!!!!!!.

We were diving on our rebreathers following the line from Cove ll to Cove lll. We think we were due East on the fishing pier.

The first one was a male about 12 ft long and he just came out of the dark. He decided to hang out with us for a while and was moving very slowly. After about 10 minutes, he moved on.

At that point we turned and started to go back towards the I-beams. Then we saw our second one. This one was just lying on the bottom under a line that was probably strung by certain technical divers that don't seem to want to remove their lines and leave entanglement hazards for marine life an other divers. This Six Gill acted dead, it was not moving at all. We were trying to figure out if it was really dead, and then it started to move and very slowly swam off into the darkness. This one was a female about 10' long.

Does anyone know if Six Gills sleep and not move. Is this a normal behavior???? or is she sick???? Any E-Vets out there?

Fantastic, Curt! =D>

2 sixgills in one dive! Man, am I sorry I missed that! Recently Calvin and Nailer saw a big female just laying on the bottom as well. Maybe you guys should compare notes! However, I think that THEY said that "their" shark was at least 30 feet long! \:D/

I agree.....there are some spots there at Seacrest where there is WAY too much line strung about and left.

Lol- yeah, "ours" was at LEAST a 30 footer. Here, Curt- Calvin shot some great video of the one we saw, check it out:

This one settled on the bottom and stayed there, too- we thought that was strange, but maybe it's not.

Seems like quite a bit of 6 gill action lately! Conventional wisdom holds that we don't usually see them except for August and September. Looks like January and February are pretty good, too!
