Newbie to the area

I am looking forward to "discovering" new (to me) sea life when I get up there. My sister who dives mostly in N. Cal says it's a different world on the west coast and I expect even more so in the colder waters of the northwest. It will be like my first time again! Any hints on how to photograph there (it's rough in FL, that 50' plus vis really hinders the camera)?

You'll be trading in your whitebalance skills for ones involving flash and macro. :evil4:

Try joining the NWDC Photo Share to get the feel for our subjects here.

Welcome to the club! =D>

I would love to. Let me get used to chillier waters first, then the family and I will look into a trip up there.

lol, from what you said the vis is better in the water than on the surface. I assume it is ice diving in the winter in places? Can I get certified for that up there?

Boy Dave, that pic brings back memories!

Here are some of the pictures that I took and Dave took during that trip.

We're definitely going back Dave, just a matter of time!

Because it's SouthEast Alaska you won't run into ice... that would be the further North. No certs necessary, just experienced dive buddies!! I like to call Southeast Alaska "Puget Sound on steroids", or Puget Sound the way it was a couple of hundred years ago.

No Ice here we r on of the ferthest island out in southeast Ak can only get to here by jet or ferry....Winter temps can be from 20 - 40 degrees and the water rairly drops below 40 unless u dive over in the Juneau where surface temps can be below freezing...Summer time we will get in the low 60s on surface temp...Great divingImage

If anyone had a hard time viewing my FL photos with the link, I think I got it fixed now. Let me know if there is still a problem. Thanks.
