Dive Site Name: Beckett Point Boat Ramp, Discovery Bay
Skill Level: Intermediate.
Current Sensitive: Yes. Crazy currents with no accurate prediction.
Location/Address: Beckett Point Road, Quimper Peninsula (near Port Townsend)
Free Parking: Yes... across the road from the boat ramp... but it's technically a private community. It's unlikely that anyone will care enough to tow your car, but discretion and courtesy are warranted.
Staging Area: Grass, gravel. Whee.
Surface Swim: Medium.
Nearby Facilities: Nada. The nearest dive shop is Octopus Gardens, in Port Townsend.
Special Considerations: Private property. That said, the people are usually friendly, and there's few around off-season.
Maximum Depth: (or typical range) Unknown. We dove to 80ft. You could certainly go deeper but probably wouldn't see anything more.
Known Hazards: Currents. The topography is strange... There's a series of elongated swales that extend out from shore, probably from the currents ripping around the point. These cause unexpected upwellings and downwellings.
Dive Site Description: Mostly a whole lot of geoduck and horse clam shells, but as you move towards the point (say about 3-4 houses south down from the boat ramp) you'll suddenly find sea pens (>50ft), and hundreds -- yes, hundreds -- of nudibranchs on the sandy bottom, eager to munch on the sea pens. At least, that was our experience. It was a boring dive site punctuated with an amazing collection of life.
