I was offered a very good deal on a Pro plus 2.1 after I had already ordered the PP3 The 2.1 does everything I need and finances demand I make choices so the new toy must go to pay bills and pay for the next PT trip. I really don't plan to do any tech stuff so it is way more computer than I need.

I have the 2.1 and it does everything I want. I got rid of the QD after I toasted one however. I also run the macdive program on my iPhone and iMac, great program.

OK so I have the 2.1 and QD and I am wondering about the story behind what happened to your computer? Did Oceanic replace it under warranty? how would water possibly get inside the computer and why would they sell the QD if it has that flaw?

I am also one of them UEMIS owners who has had serious issues with it as well. Just dont want to end up down a dark road with another computer.

Got my PP 2.1 about 2.5 years ago off Craigslist. At that time I was told by the seller that I could disconnect it and rinse it. Well you can't. A bit of water worked its way up into the computer and the rest is history. Here's the part that pissed me off, Oceanic wanted $150 to repair/replace it. Being the new diver that I was I thought I would support my LDS and take it to them to send in knowing they would tack on a few bucks for shipping and handling. 250 bucks later I get my replacement back! Yes I have never set foot in that shop again. So being the klutz that I am the first thing I did was to change out the hose to a standard HP hose.

P.S. I know I wasn't supporting them by buying it off Craigslist, but that was all I could afford at the time.

Hmmm my PP 2.1 has been left in the gear soak tank disconnected from the hose overnight a number of times over the last 5 years.

There should be no way that water can get into a computer via the quick disconnect through normal rinsing. They are designed to be rinsed that way. However it is an added failure point which is not really necessary. I suspect your Craig's list unit was defective in some way. At any rate this unit did not come with the QD. But alas it is on it's way back to the shop for a refund.

My oceanic 2.1 once got stuck in an H2O mode and pulled the battery and that corrected it.I have not had any other issues to date.I think it might also have been the contact leads might have gotten crossed somehow.

Computerless diving is the bomb imo.

I have used the pp2 for over 6 years and other than me flooding it when I changed the battery it has performed flawlessly. My main reason on the initial purchase was my old eyes. It is one of only a couple initial gear purchases that I have not regretted.

I have always rinsed it while attached, never by itself.

I choose the quick disconnect so that I could detach it and take it with me when I sat down at my computer to download dives rather than have my whole reg set with me. I am glad I did.

When I replace it I will go with a wrist mount (only to eliminate a hose) and since using slung 80's for deeper recreational dives in Bonaire it would be nice to be able to switch gasses (which the 2 does not have).

But of course now that my download cable is gone... :angry:

They never told me what happened just to send it in and they would fix it for $150. I used it for 30-40 dives before it died. I am only left to assume it was water intrusion as I tried several new batteries.

Oceanic will usually send you a working unit off the shelf and repair yours at a later date. I had an old VT Pro that I sent in twice and I got a different computer back each time....
