General banter about diving and why we love it.

I did the pumpkin carving contest with Marker Buoy..

Post by Emilyrc »

I've been wanting to do it since I started diving, and Goodt_godiving invited me this year, and it was the first year for both of us.. That made this extra special. HA!

We had NO plan, and tried to wing it. Probably should have had some idea before we got down there. The rules were pretty simple. Can't puncture your gourd until you're at 10 feet, and you have an hour. There were prizes for Scariest, best use of sea life, best used as pumpkin pie, Best cartoon character, and a few others. Janney and I got none of those. We got a "we feel bad for you, so here's a consolation prize!"

Below is Derpy Squash, second from the right in all of its "special" glory. I broke BOTH saws, and said screw it!

Vis was excellent, considering the swells that picked up. It got UGLY after we got out.

Thanks FMerkle and everyone else for having me at your event, I will definitely be doing it again!

You ought to try it, it's a challenge. It's also remarkably fun.
Here's a decent video of the event from member Jim McGauhey.

Part of our club went to Deception Pass for a "difficult" dive. The Pumpkin Carvers ended up with the more difficult dive when the weather changed and the easy entry became an exciting exit through pounding waves on the concrete bulkhead. It was a real washing machine.

Where were you guys at? We did our first Pumpkin Dive with our LDS Oregon City Scuba at Sunrise Resort in Hoodsport. Like you guys, we had a great time and made some new friends too.

Congrat's on doing your first Pumpkin Dive

I am not familiar with that name. Is that near Cove I, II or III?

Just curious... :)

It's down the road quite a ways. Still on Harbor Ave. Here's the directions:

Take the West Seattle bridge to the Harbor Ave. SW exit. Follow Harbor Ave SW past Alki Coves 1,2 and 3, past the Don Armini Ramp until the road turns into Alki Ave. SW. Continue until you come to 64th Ave Sw And park along the road wherever you can find parking. You want to enter the water at the very last stari case at the end of the sea wall before the residential homes start

Interesting...this is the first time I have heard of this place. Thanks for the heads up Emily and thanks Captain Jack for the map.

This is so cool! I'm so sad I missed this! Oh man! :-( Deception Pass was the same day and couldn't miss that.
