So what is a good resource for getting in on some tech dives around here?

My dive buddy and I tec dive most every weekend, but then we're dead men walk'n.

In my experience, some folks/groups are more open to inviting other divers to dive with them, and others aren't.

I'm heading to Sund on Saturday, if you wanna dive, hit me up.

Roger that and thanks Jeff!

Yeah I have found that the tech dives are pretty quiet out there. I want to rack up some deep time and you just don't see many technical dives been tossed around.

Not too worried and will keep an eye open for options.

Also, if you don't have a scooter, that may limit your options as well if you don't have a boat or access to one.

What are you looking to do? Any specific dive or site?

I might be interested although I'm a bit rusty still so it'll be a month or two

No "secret club" of which I am aware but, instead, a belief that as the dives get more complex the more you need to know your teammate(s). So it seems to me the way to get teammates for Technical Diving is to start putting together one's own group of like minded/like trained divers.

And one of the ways to make sure one has a group of like minded/like trained technical divers is to work with one instructor and dive with those who've trained with that instructor. At the very least, it is a starting point.

Mind you I totally get that. I want to open up some options to dive even when my "support" group isn't available. I take my training very seriously and certainly want to have the ability to hook up with some out of my group to not only open up my diving opportunities but to absorb information and styles from others.

Thanks for the feedback and I dive with my group as often as I can. I just find that I want to dive more often then dives are available.

Bummer.

Did Scott train you in any particular style? GUE? Naui? PADI? Something else?

Most likely, I need to get as much stick time prior to my mod 2/3 course April 14th. I can only stay for a couple of dives, and have to be back by 3pm.

A little bit of both TDI and NAUI. Tri mix, advanced nitrox, decompression procedures, and one magic spell but its only cleric healing +2

If you're talking about Scott Christopher, I took most of my tech classes from him several years ago and he was (and I assume still is) teaching NAUI and/or TDI classes. They're taught with a strong GUE influence in terms of technique, equipment, and emphasis on team cohesion.

I don't do much deep diving anymore ... I've reached a point where it just doesn't appeal to me the way it once did, except for an occasional trip to the MT6.

Norris, tec dives around here I've found is mostly "word of mouth" kinda. people tend to make friends and buddies and stick with those known entities.

I'd be happy to drop on a few lake dives with you if you want?

Richard and I are planning some light tec dives In late April from our boats and be happy to get you in the boat if you want?

Thanks for the reply man. Yeah I knew this going in, and just find that I am wanting to dive a little more than my immediate group. I have a couple friends that wont be tech diving for some time.

So I decided to cast the line and see what is out there. Richard and I have spoke and we are throwing something together down the road. In addition I have some offers here and there.
Not having a scooter limits my lake dives a little, but if something really cool came up, I have loaner options. Again, thanks for the reply, and I hope we can do that dive sometime.

Good luck! You will find tech divers are a real small percentage of diving community.
I think for some the idea of tech diving is far more appealing than the reality.

I received a note that my last post was condescending.
This is a real dive Busy this week? We are going again
this year. Know wrecks. Mystery wrecks.
You only know if you ask
If you want to dive, come out with us
If you are planning a dive, invite us

No popcorn eating. Just diving.

Pretty sure Rick wouldn't dive the Sampson, a 300+ foot dive, immediately after getting his first tech cert...
