Question about Sunday in the hood

There's a pretty wicked exchange at Flagpole on Sunday. A few of us were planning to dive there sometime, but we are kind of on the fence. What will the currents be like? I have never dove the south sound.

I have dove a 12ft exchange before out there. It wasn't bad but you could feel it.
Are you shore diving or from a boat?
That would make a difference.
If your going from Mikes Beach I wouldn't try it.
Its a 400-500 yard swim and you would be fighting the current and the wind.

Possibly flagpole, shore dive. Sund may be an option.

I agree with Don-B. Boat dive, no problem. I wouldn't do it as a surface swim/shore dive, though.

Although from the steep road entrance, its not such a surface swim, but still better with a scoot.

Wind driven surface current can be strong at flagpole. Sundays predicted southerlies with an ebb tide would make a strong northbound current likely.
The problem is if you end up on the surface off shore, you are swept across the mouth of an opening bay and reaching shore can be very difficult.

Yea, those southerlies can make all along there nasty when they kick in. Last weekend we hit the southerlies on an ebb at Sund, and it was the most current we've ever encountered there, and deeper than just surface current as well.
