Three Tree North – 6/23/14 – Help with Snailfish ID

Post by Scubie Doo »

Three Tree continues to deliver the critters and yesterday was no exception. EJ and I headed out for a Sunday afternoon dive. We headed out from the antler house (FYI - Antlers are removed), to the golf ball boat, to the bottlefield and home. Fantastic dive with lots of fun critters.

The very first critter I came across on our decent was a this little snailfish. I understand color is not a good way to ID critters. however, this one seemed more "bumpy" to me. It was white, so very difficult to get detail on. Rich, I shot this at an aperture of 25 to reduce depth of field. However, with the +10 diopter, it still blurred the background. It was on a kelp leaf in about 20' of water. It was about 1 to 1-1/2" in length.
