Scooter Lines to the Valiant have been cut.

Apparently some group has self appointed itself as the guardian of the wreck and has gone in and removed and cut all the lines to the Valiant in Lake Washington.

One line is cut at 40ft. The other line cut at 120.

These lines were clearly cut and removed. This is a recent activity, because apparently 6 weeks ago these lines were still intact.

Given the wrecks deterioration, I dont totally disagree with limiting its access, but no one appointed you its guardian, it's not your wreck, no one appointed you as the scuba police, and you didnt even have the balls to let anyone know you did it or announce it so others dives aren't impacted by your unilateral decision.

Its also clear whoever did it, since they cut the line at 120, chose to leave it so they could still access the wreck with the proper compass bearings from the last stake.

we intend to go back and repair the line soon, or at worse provide the compass bearings from the last stake.

As I was running that line previously, I always thought to take compass bearings and time on the lines. Wish I had!

Like I said above, I really dont dispute that the wreck has seriously deteriorated over the past few years and that perhaps some form of limiting access could/should be considered (how, I have no idea, but I'm just saying I dont disagree with the intent), but I what I seriously object to was the fact the line was left in a matter so as only a select group could access the wreck with the compass bearings from the last stake. That and the fact this decision was made unilaterally and without any sort of notice.

Its quite disappointing and a poor reflection.

OTOH, I've heard the line will be restored next weekend, but most likely sooner than that, like real soon :)

Seems like trying to remedy traffic congestion by removing the street signs in the area in the middle of the night.

Ok, I'll bite who are the scuba police?
More importantly why would they give a rats ass about this site? It's not a secret or unknown.
Inquiring minds want to know.

Just my generic term for people who appoint themselves an authority on where and how other people are supposed to dive, not thinking of anyone in specific.

I happen to be a member of the scuba police. Our mission is to make sure people are diving proper. If you have the wrong fins, or wear your compass on the right, or run deco the wrong way...you are a clear hazard to the diving community and I will pull you over. When I'm not telling people what gear to wear or how to dive, my main pastime is cutting lines and trying to hide dive sites from the general population. Our next project is to cut all the lines at Edmonds Underwater Park...basically the pontoon has sustain a lot of diver damage the last several years.

We scuba police are engaged in a necessary yet thankless mission: showing everybody how wrong they are about diving. It can be exhausting work. But maybe some day a guy will walk up to me and buy me a beer saying "thanks scuba policeman...you were right all along!"

I'm going to go silt the shit out of it just on principle now. Maybe I can do that one scene from Into the Blue where Paul Walker turns the scooter backwards and blows everything to hell. Ye olde scuba polezei should appreciate that!

What the police give back, can be taken away again.

At least get compass bearings first☺
