How do you carry your gear?

My dive gear bag (which was just a standard suitcase... not dive specific) has kicked the bucket after over a year of weekly abuse!

Question!
What do you use to transport your gear? Would you change anything about it? How much did you pay for it?

Thanks!

For airline travel? I use a non descript roller bag from costco, that doesnt scream dive gear. I carry my regs and computer in my backpack as carryon. Less questions, less attention.

Sorry!
Around to dive sites (Shore dives and junk).
I've seen hockey bags, mobile tool boxes, big rubbermaids, etc. so I'm trying to figure out which direction I'm going next.

Keeps the car dry & easy to wash gear in too.

Plano Sportsman's Trunk.

I used the 108qt sized one for several years. Great size for dive gear (longer fins fit inside it), has a lid AND wheels!:

Plano finally came out with a couple of other sizes of this type of box. I found that my gear would fit inside the 68qt model. It's a little shorter in length, and fits the back of my suv without having to fold down the seat. Now I have room to bring kids/shore Sherpa's if desired.

I've found both of these boxes locally at Sportsman's Warehouse. The 108qt model could occasionally be found at various (not all) Home Depot stores.

Tough, large enough to put all my gear in short of tanks and weights!

Had to scale back the operation. Excessive demand for refunds and escalating overhead expenses (aka: bribery) were hurting the bottom line. It was okay when I could negotiate with them individually, but then they threatened to form a union...

Something to note about the big rigid bins: While they work great for transporting gear in a personal vehicle, they take up way too much space on the deck of a dive charter. It's good to have separate bags for exposure gear (drysuit, hood, gloves) vs BCD regs, lights, etc. Some of our local charters have less space for gear than others, and big bins just won't fit in some spaces.

Depends on your rig. What are you driving?

Driving? Subaru Outback hatchback, but sometimes I join the communal van out to the dive sites.
Now if that was a typo and you mean diving then I have both a backmount and sidemount set-up and choose which rig I'm using for that days dive plan.

Thanks for all the responses!

I meant driving :). I have a Subaru too (don't dive out of the much though. But I think the smaller Plano box Penders mentioned would be ideal for you.

Yeah plastic bin goes in the car for driving, and a couple bags for boats.

The cool thing about the Plano box is that it has a rubber oring. This way your gear stays damp if you can't rinse right away. So you avoid any rust.

My dive vehicle is a 2006 Ford F250 and I bolted this tool box to the side with 1/2 inch bolts. Why cause well you cant trust no one so they going to have to bring their game to take it.

Last time I went diving I actually put my tank/bcd/ and regs together and it fits nicely inside laying down. That way pull it out and ready to go. :supz:

+1 to the large Rubbermaid, very inexpensive and keeps the car dry. I got mine for like $10 from Target

+1 to Poiguy05. The roller tool totes are great for getting everything together, great for transport over various terrain to get to your setup spot, and can be used as a soak tub when you'd done and want to rinse your gear. They're fairly inexpensive (between $25-50 at Lowes and Home Depot).

I have 3 of the large Husky boxes and use them for all kinds of things, including scuba and they are great.

Most of the time it is like this,

I love this tub with wheels. First one I had lasted 8 years.

Everyone uses tubs here...
I do use a large duffel bag sometimes though..
Like a hockey bag style...
