Hey, looking good Doc! No substitute for just taking pics and working on improving! I think your shots are good. And I tried video, and felt like it was a long slow learning curve!
Re: Some Pics from the last 6 months
Its a very diff world going from a simple point and shoot camera to a Full frame , SLR camera that has so many settings to learn and choose for a picture .. I have had to try with my Sony A6300 camera how the Focus settings work for underwater.. My camera Has 6 different types of focus for manual raw shooting !! And for me i just want 1 setting that can focus for shots 12 inches to 2 feet ... Sony focus sensor doesnt know what to focus on sometimes , and for underwater seems to not understand full frame shots at F22... My 2 psi

Nice work Chris!
You got some really good shots there and you keep improving. Keep shooting!
1) use spot/point focus
2) aim your focus on an edge (AF systems focus using contrast)
3) make sure the area you're focusing on is well lit
4) if needed, use center focus (this point is usually the best at focusing)
5) don't try to focus closer than your camera can focus
6) if you find your lens seeking, seeking, seeking and taking way too long to go in and out, see if you can limit the focus motor to closeup only. Often there's a switch on the lens to do so.

Not sure what you mean here.H20doctor wrote:and for underwater seems to not understand full frame shots at F22... My 2 psi

Even at F22 .. Still get out of focus areas due to my Sony being a mirror Less camera 1/2. Crop sensor

H2O, that is the challenge with macro and super macro. I have the same challenge on my full frame. Many photographers use the “out of focus” areas or bokeh to add depth and artistic value. You can really make an image pop by using that to your advantage.H20doctor wrote:Even at F22 .. Still get out of focus areas due to my Sony being a mirror Less camera 1/2. Crop sensor
Keep shooting you’re getting better shots, and embrace the bokeh. :-)

Re: Some Pics from the last 6 months
Atta boy! One other key note on using bokeh, you’ll need to make sure you reduce your iso a bit to reduce noise in the bokeh and dark areas of the photo. I now shoot at f16. f22 requires a lot more light and I like have “range” to adjust lighting on the fly. Happy to discuss more the next time I see you. Keep on truckin.H20doctor wrote:Scubie Doo wrote:H2O, that is the challenge with macro and super macro. I have the same challenge on my full frame.
