mentos seem to cause the solubility of CO2 in coke to reduce dramatically and the CO2 rapidly comes out of solution.
i've been wondering if you could create a 2L coke bomb by emptying it half out, suspending a mentos from a string off the bottlecap and then tipping it over from a suitable distance...
we made 2L bottles explode at the astromony observatory in E wash by putting a little liquid nitrogen in them and capping them... the mentos bomb would be hella messier though...

Sounds more like a violent demonstration of Henry's Law than anything to do with gas management ...
As strange as it sounds, I just happened upon this topic. I'm definitely interested. I've got it on my calendar and I'll be trying to find someone to carpool with. Maciek?
Sounder wrote:That is true... it could be quite a mess. Seeing as how none of us know quite what is going to happen, perhaps we should wait until we're in an open area. It's not an explosion though, more of a Bellagio-style fountain of minty diet coke foam.
the 'stock' way of doing this is just a sticky foamy fountain. find a way to cap that and you should build up pressure until the container ruptures... =)
dang, we stuck an office trashcan over a 2L bottle and when it exploded it completely peeled back the trashcan and split all its seams... lot of energy in that plastic bottle when it goes actually... i personally wouldn't put anything like that on my chest...
