Magic Mushrooms?

Post by Dusty2 »

A little help here? They look like mushrooms but I'm pretty sure they are sponges of some sort.

Anybody know just what these things are?

Saw a bunch of them recently, and don't remember seeing them before and haven't had time to look them up.

Maybe the pale mushroom compound tunicate (Aplidopsis pannosum), page 353 in Lamb/Hanby

Sure could be... it looks almost identical...

Although, from the page you referenced: "For the amateur naturalist who uses external anatomy identify species, it is very difficult to distinguish many of the compound tunicates." #-o

Of course! :axe:
