The Oregon Field Guide did a story on the volunteer divers at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. In case you missed it here's a link to their Web site and the video: http://www.opb.org/programs/ofg/videos/ ... ium-Divers.

One of the best gigs in the west!

nice segment! i would really like to volunteer there because i know i would enjoy that. i wish newport wasn't so far from portland. the six-hour round trip commute is too much, especially when gas prices are so high.

thanks, for sharing that, though!

welcome to the forum, joe!

you really drive 6 hours to volunteer at the aquarium? if so, :salute:

how long do you stay in newport when you volunteer? a couple days?

For those who are interested, you can do a 3 week cycle. Where you do one day every 3 weeks, or you can be on a 6 week cycle. Where you can do SAt and Sunday every six weeks. You don't have to be there every weekend. And if you can't make it, you find one of your fellow divers to fill in for you and you do the same for them. Here are a few pics to tease you all.

The segment was great. We really want to do that when Bob retires.
