A mega-yacht with complete crew, fully stocked with both OC and CCR gear, a compressor with ample helium, posh accomidations, a submarine, two helicopters, a swim-up bar, multiple tenders.... basically, Paul Allen's Octopus with increased emphasis on diving.mz53480 wrote:Here goes....

Best gift to give? A high-performance (working) regulator when your buddy needs it most.mz53480 wrote:Here goes....

You forgot the most important part: The operating budget. With choppers, crew, etc. it's easily more than $1MM a year. But I like how you think.Sounder wrote:A mega-yacht with complete crew, fully stocked with both OC and CCR gear, a compressor with ample helium, posh accomidations, a submarine, two helicopters, a swim-up bar, multiple tenders.... basically, Paul Allen's Octopus with increased emphasis on diving.

1. A toolbox or art supply kit filled with save-a-dive type stuff, such as tools (leatherman, allen and other type wrenches), o-rings, silicone lube, bike tire patches, zipper wax, seal saver, batteries, aquaseal and cotol, etc.
2. Air card (or an aquaholics membership )
3. Any gear, including a scooter! That should fit nicely into a stocking. I've often wished for another reg set, just to have a backup when mine is being serviced, or to loan out.
4. Critter ID books

Acually It's more like $20 million a year to operate th Octopus http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/photos/05/octopus.pptairsix wrote:You forgot the most important part: The operating budget. A very wide-mouthed, large thermos to keep hot water in for your hood, gloves and head.
Those lovely microfiber towels that soak up more than their weight in water, but fold up into nothing.
Tobin's (Deep Sea Supply) inflator tool and BC rinsing attachments.
An o-ring pick.
A gift certificate for the charter operator of your giftee's choice.
Scott Boyd's Wreck Dives of Puget Sound.
Any of a whole bunch of critter ID books.
True West dive parka.
Oh, and would somebody please give Pez that trip to the Red Sea? I need to fill the boat.
I could go on.

Already picked my Christmas present out. Anybody wanna show me how much they love this site? I mean, really show me? It can be fitted with a hyperbaric lockout chamber......Sounder wrote:A mega-yacht with complete crew, fully stocked with both OC and CCR gear, a compressor with ample helium, posh accomidations, a submarine, two helicopters, a swim-up bar, multiple tenders.... basically, Paul Allen's Octopus with increased emphasis on diving.mz53480 wrote:Here goes....

my present from my nwdc fans won't be nearly as expensive as yours, josh, but you're welcome to dock your sub there anytime.Joshua Smith wrote:Already picked my Christmas present out. Duct Tape and Zip Ties. You can fix just about anything with 'em (at least for awhile...)

All I want is to befriend Spatman, and Joshua Smith in particular when the sub and the island work out.
Okay now in an attempt to actually be helpful, might I suggest one of those giant like 5 gallon gatorade keg style coolers, for hot water on cold dive days?
They sell them at Hertz Equipment Rental on 4th and Dawson in Seattle.

Re: Last minute shopping--what's the best Scuba gift?
Now this is just a suggestion but I took a 96 gallon garbage can and got an outdoor faucet and some rings(just like O rings) from the repair section of Lowes. I drilled a hole the same size as the faucet and put the O rings on each side and tightened down the plactic nut and there you have a large rinse container that you can also starp down in the back of a truck bed. I use it on those long hauls. I keep telling myself to just turn the faucet upside down and get one of those water bed adapters so that i can fill it with hot water. Then add a small hose and you can have about 96 gallons of water to warm up or rinse gear.
