peaceful civil disobedience

Post by bigsky »

what the hell was i thinking?
of course we should work with city hall
placate them and massage their egos
to peacefully and respectfully go to a location where
you are told not to be, even though there is no
possible reason for the law to exist is inexcusable
the reverend martin luther king was an idiot
they should have stayed on the back of the bus and
worked with the powers that be
ghandi was a moron, the salt mines? why go there?
the law was specific, no salt without a permit, and
if you try you get a ticket
of course you should always threaten other divers
if you see them doing something you disagree with
that is my new mantra, work with city hall, threaten divers who do not do it my way
i know the difference between right and wrong
wrong is usually the fun one

Fight the power, brother!

The other thread got out of hand. I'm gonna unlock it later, people have been talked to, many, many private messages and phone calls have been exchanged. I'm gonna have to ask Calvin to double my pay this month.

In the mean time, let's all please stop pissing on each other's feet.

What is more important to you: to put on a big show for your own ego, or to actually make progress and get this dive site back? You have to pick one.

The smart thing to do is go to city hall and attempt to make friends first. We have many potential friends/allies on that council. Don't make enemies out of them right from the start. Like I said before: Like it or not you're in the game and the only way to win is by the rules.

Sorry Josh, I'll be quiet now.

No it isn't. A democracy is a mob. We believe in a representative government. Thank goodness we do not live in a democracy, where we would be tossed this way and that by every group-think flavor of the week idea that came down the pipe.

Ummm..... Last I checked we are a representative democracy which was founded as a Republic.

"The United States is, a republic, not a democracy. Accurately defined, a democracy is a form of government in which the people decide policy matters directly--through town hall meetings or by voting on ballot initiatives and referendums. A republic, on the other hand, is a system in which the people choose representatives who, in turn, make policy decisions on their behalf. The Framers of the Constitution were altogether fearful of pure democracy. Everything they read and studied taught them that pure democracies "have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths"

Come on Doc... "attacked"?

Stuff has happened that we don't like - some of it has been dealt with and won't happen again (#3), and I certainly don't like the shutting down of some of our sites - hopefully that can and will be dealt with as well.

But "attacked"? I can see that it feels that way... and responses have happened and more are necessary. But I still think "attacked" is an overreaction.

Like I said... there's been some full moon weirdness in the ether as of late.

Or how 'bout hug your fellow diver? I just read this thread, and that other thread. Wow...

So... I've been enjoying a Hales' Mongoose IPA tonight. The label boasts it being dry hopped. Not sure what that means, except maybe there is wet hopped IPA? Anyway, it's a pretty good beer, made in Ballard, and it's on sale! I'd recommend it. Next time we have a dive-bbq-n-beer, I might have to bring some, and have one more before going to bed. :partyman:

Think happy, and less stressful thoughts people. It's the weekend, and the vis isn't bad either. So go dive, be kind to your blood pressure, and irritate Josh less... \:D/

Now, this is why I don't post as often as I used to... threads take off and people post in the heat and height of passion and emotion. Unfortunately, once it's out there, there's no taking it back.

No one is attacking democracy for heaven's sake. No one is being attacked. Let's put this into proper perspective. Somehow I don't think MLK is remotely in the same league as dive site access being lost. Raging emotion and anger doesn't do anything to help with government commmunication. And remember, there is a "Preview" button you can hit before posting, which gives you a moment to review what you've written before putting it out for the world.

Somehow I don't think there would be so much "yelling" if we were all face to face instead of keyboard to keyboard.

Ah... thanks for clearing that up... man, I wonder how stuff ever gets communicated clearly... my apologies there Doc - it's all good. Say, you ought to join us at TTN tomorrow! Still haven't seen the light in action.

See you tomorrow Val.

Dry hopped means that the hops are added after the wort is made from the mash in whole grain brewing. it means the hopps were added to the primary fermentation and never boiled or cooked. then they are removed for the secondary fermentation.

Close Mav. The hops are actually added to the secondary fermentation. If you add the dryhops to the primary fermentation the CO2 bubbling off strips the alpha acids from the wort, and breaks down the hop oils, and doesn't have as nice of an effect as dry hopping in the secondary. First wort hopping also makes a very good beer, where you actually add hops to the mash. (grains).

Okay right, Its been a while since i made beer. I would have caught it though in the haze of brewing and drinking. One thing is for sure, you can always tell when someone knows how to make beer and when someone read how to make beer. Home brew is the best, if you keep everything sterile. When i moved my friend got to keep all the whole grain brewing supplies and i kept the malt brewing supplies. I can brew malt alone, but you really need two people for a grain brew, its heavy and not hot but warm to handle alone. Are you set up for grain brewing :bounce:

Yeah, I moved to grain brewing about 5 years ago, never looked back. 15 gallon 5 day cooler, 15 gallon keg, 10gallon batches. I made drinkable beer with malt, but never great beer. Now I'm even set up with a temperature controlled lagering freezer.

We made lagers in the winter in the cellar in school. I have made great beer with malts, but the temps are very critical and bacterias grow easier, so keeping everything sterile is much more important than with grain because the sugar is ready from the get go for the bacterias to host on.

Invariably with malt I would wind up burning some on the bottom due to doing concentrated boils. Leaves that hint of burnt sugar, which in most beers isn't very good. Do you do a full size boil? That's supposed to really help with making better malt beers. I got my big boil kettle at the same time I set up my all grain stuff, so I never got to try a malt full size boil to see if it was true.

After reading the first part of this thread, I began envisoning Divers standing outside of town hall, wet/drysuits glistening wet in the light of torches, yelling, and raging, and throwing fins and Aqua sox at anyone who neysay'd them.
