Changes to NWDC Site
Changes to NWDC Site
I suppose the NWDC site is a type of 'gear', isn't it?
I've made a few changes to the site:
- automatic avatar resizing (wooohooo!)
- better way to add links, just hit the URL button now (forget about highlighting and editing the code now) and enter the appropriate info in the popup box. (Yipeeeee!)
- new user agreement asks that the soon-to-be NWDC member fill out their profile information and also introduce themselves once they register. This also prevents spammers from registering with a blank profile.
- each new user must be manually approved to complete registration.
- member profiles and usergroups are only accessible by registered/logged in users.
- banning by domain (e.g., @spammer.com) and IP address
- a record of each registrant's IP address at time of registration (this one was hard to do!)
- better IP lookup for times that we do get spammed
Mostly, I set out to make these changes to combat the automated spam bots that have been signing up for the site lately. Many of you might not have noticed since I've been going through and booting them.

What's up with the whack avatar, Calvin? It's just, like, a pic of someone diving. No mutants?
