Pulali Point and The Pinnacle: Pacadventure Dives

Post by Gooch »

We dove this weekend with Pacific Adventures Charters (http://www.pacadventure.com/) with Capt. Don and it was (as always) a great set of dives. It began with a drive from the Portland/Vancouver area in the wee hours with Steve and Jean Zetiger and we hooked up with a few more divers from the Portland area for a couple of dives. The weather was perfect and we headed out to the wall at Pulali for the first dive. At the anchor, we saw a big wolf eel swimming around free (a first for me and Dea) and we managed to see a few more wolfies, lots of nudies, jellies, vermilion rockfish and a lot more as we swam around the wall. I was hoping to see the gigantoid octo we had seen a bit ago on our first dives with Don but it was not to be. The viz was pretty good; maybe 20' or more and we all had a great first dive.

The pinnacle is a great seamount and we got to see some more wolfies in the open water and in some hideouts too. A lot more vermilion and other rockfish. Lots of nudis on this dive and the jellies were abundant as well. I saw a huge star fish- I don't know the name but it was white and really big. A lot of decorator crabs hanging out- I was taking a picture of one and as I snapped another moved where my hand was I didn't even see and spooked me. It was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed the gorgeous weather and great viz. Don runs a nice boat and has all the extras; the dives with him and his crew are always a lot of fun and we get to see the best stuff. Great dives!

I need to get out there and dive the pinnacle. Vermilion rockfish are my favorites, and I understand there is a big SCHOOL of them there -- I've only ever seen them in ones or twos.

Love diving with Don!

That pic of the Lion's Mane with all the tentacles spread out is scary!

Jellies are from another planet, I think. But that planet must be close to nudibranch planet and a short hop to octo-squid planet too.

Thursday should be a great day, vis should be at least as good as last weekend. I have open seats on Saturday if anyone is interested........seems really strange to have open seats on a Saturday with diving as good as it is in The Hood...
