dive report and pic's

Post by steve murvine »

my stay got extended by another week (or two) and i got to dive a couple more sites in the Hood Canal.
the vis on both dives was between 35 and 50 ft and the water temp was 48deg at depth.
the first site was Jorstad Creek and the second was Flagpole, both new sites for my growing list of "been there done that" dives
there were hundreds of flabilena's covering the sites and on dive one we saw four giant pacific octo's and dive two yielded 5 wolf eels on their
holes and one out swimming. in my excitement i got the camera into video mode and swam with him for at least a minute and a half. towards the end i noticed that i had forgotten to hit the shutter button to start the recording :(
i don't know if these were the last dives of this trip or not ,but if they were, they were good last dives to remember washington by !!
here are the pic's from sunday

enjoy !!

Nice pix! Incidentally, your "ID needed" nudibranch is a Tritonia festiva, festive or diamondback tritonia.

What photo gear are you using? P+S? DSLR? Lens options? Stobe package? Are you shooting manual settings? RAW? I just replaced my old camera due to a flood in the Philippines, and thanks to some overtime, was able to upgrade to a G10, and the housing should arrive tomorrow. I had always used the factory settings on my (now dead) Olympus (usually using Underwater Macro), but with the new camera want to experiment with manual. Great photos, esp. like the wolf eel out of it's den, resting on it's fins. The vis looks incredible- time to get back to the Canal.
