Re: The return of SCUBA trivia!!!
Alright folks -- sorry for the confusion. Let's award a point for the horn shark answer, but then revert back to Curt's Everett ship question moving forward. However gets it right gets to ask the next one.

Re: The return of SCUBA trivia!!!
Boyd nailed it -- Sixgills have a gestational age thought to be longer than 2 FREAKING years!!! They actually carry very large litters of over 100 pups, but these pups tend to ... ahem... eat each other, and far less survive. As an aside, the spiny dogfish is right up there too, with a gestational a...

The return of SCUBA trivia!!!
Hey everyone, It's the return of scuba trivia! The rules are simple. 1) I will ask a trivia question 2) Each of you will attempt to answer the question 3) Once a correct answer is posted (to my satisfaction), then I will acknowledge said answer as correct 4) The author of the correct answer must the...

Unfortunately I haven't received very many responses yet :(
All of the ones I have received are 3-5 mins west from the carousel boat at Redondo with varying permutations of details.

Spots Open for Neah Bay next Monday!
Hey everyone, We had a few last minute cancellations for our charter in Neah Bay next Monday (Aug 27), so we have a few spots open. If conditions allow we are going to dive Duncan Rock, one of the best dive sites in the Pacific Northwest. The charter is 2 tanks, $150 per person, and leaves somewhere...

Re: HELP!! Sixgill Sightings Database - please report sighti
I think most of the recent sightings have been at Redondo, but I've also heard sketchy reports of sightings at Owens Beach and possibly 3 tree as well. Maybe this will help clear the air

Awesome!!! After going 0/2 this week I was beginning to lose hope. Just a reminder to you Bob and to everyone who has seen these -- please report them to the survey at: https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/slundy/175980 I'm hoping to find trends that seem to help sight these guys (for example -- stop...

HELP!! Sixgill Sightings Database - please report sightings!
Hey everyone, I've set up a simple web survey with the intention of pooling data from the recent rash of sixgill sightings. I know there have been a number of sightings by folks on this board, and I want to use this data to try and find trends. If you've seen one within the past 6 months, please vis...

Re: Get to Know WAGIG better
[ Well i will be with al80 tank. Unknown at this time what 7-10 min of air for me is...will only know that with more diving...so until then exit water with 500psi...[/quote] ... So you won't know when you will run out of air until you do? That in a nutshell is the reason we all feel so passionate ab...

Re: Get to Know WAGIG better
I would definitely suggest attending one of the free gas management seminars Brian (Bdub) puts on -- he's a heckuva instructor, and almost everyone finds the session useful. That being said, I would in a nutshell: 1. Learn to calculate your SAC rate and determine how much gas you breathe above water...

Re: Get to Know WAGIG better
that 500psi you have left in your tank could last a typical new diver as little as 3 minutes at 30ft -- do you think ballparking your gas usage and only leaving a 3 minute buffer will be enough for emergencies?

Re: Get to Know WAGIG better
So it sounds like you'd like to do solo dives without a redundant air supply in nearly-zero viz on a regular basis, and that sort of dive isn't pushing your limits? (warning -- sorry for the bluntness). What is your contingency plan if you get caught in monofilament? What happens if the current blow...

Re: Redondo Sixgill
Nice work Bob. Between Bob's shark last night, the juvenile we saw, and a different shark we saw Wed night, I can say with 90% certainty that there are at least 3 unique sixgills around Redondo right now. I'll post a few pics soon

Re: Redondo Sixgill
As Bob said, we had a stellar encounter with a juvenile sixgill at Redondo last night. After a 2 hr fight with traffic, I finally arrived at the dive site and quickly geared up. We chose to dive twin cylinders and an O2 bottle to maximize our bottom time searching for the elusive sixgill. After desc...

Re: A few little things ...
This is about as small as I can get - it's a cluster of tubesnout eggs that appear to be near hatching age. This is 1:1 macro on a 105mm Nikon lens with a touch of cropping, so you're looking at an egg that's about 1-2mm in diameter

Re: Is a DPV Class Worth Taking?
As someone who thought he had scootering figured out independently, and then ACTUALLY took a DPV course from an instructor, I cannot stress enough how useful these classes are. Taking it may seem a bit like overkill, but you simply can't learn all of the scooter lore quickly and completely when you'...
