So well written report about a sad occurrence. I always worry when I hear about plans to extend Langley marina or Keystone ferry landing. Are we slowly, but surely eliminating fish and critter habitats ? And places to dive? :pale:

Dubious Dorid is not that common, great find! I had only one encounter at Langley last year, what was interesting, I collected two specimen for Dave, when I took them home, they turned brown, more like the ones in your photo..

In defense of Langley

For those folks who experienced only tires, sunflower stars and silt at Langley, I want to tell, that it is not all bad, one just has to look little bit harder. Yesterday, Monday the 19th, Painted Greenling showing off its future family :) http://farm1.static.flickr.com/187/428699220_5ab70ecf6a_o.jp...

I am so glad you guys made it and had a good dive here on Whidbey, sorry I did not make it today, the weather was just right for catching up with paperwork which I neglected whole week ( I was diving :supz: ) and I figured there will be enough divers crowding the Jetty without me adding to the multi...

Doug, your plan is a good one, of course one really doesn't know, I have dove Keystone when there was current when none was predicted.. Even if current is running strong, if you stay away from the end of jetty, you should OK. Keep close to the rocks where all the life is, cannot get lost :) As far a...

Doug, you got it right, the southerly wind does make mess at Keystone, by Saturday - well, lets hope it will be clear and calm. I hope you can make it to Whidbey :supz:

Great photos! Looking at the fish photo, it looks to me like Great Sculpin, we might ask Janna. The eggs on the first photo look exactly like the ones I took at Langley, and that was Buffalo Sculpin. So they could be sculpin eggs..Just my 2 cents worth... :salute:

Looks like Painted Anemone (Urticina crassicornis). How was the visibility there? I checked your Flickr pics, you got some neat Sand Rose Anemone pictures, they are titled by mistake sea urchins :)

Tom, great photos and now video ! :supz:
I am curious, can you tell me if the spawning happened at slack water, low or high tide - I am trying to find out if it is predictable, maybe somebody already knows and let me know? Thanks again for posting...

No, I don't think nothing eats nudibranchs (except other nudibranchs, but they don't live here). I was watching Sunflower Star cruising down the piling with small Shaggy Mouse nudi in its way. Of course I stopped to watch what will happen. The star stopped in its track and then moved sideways away f...

I will try to answer based on my experience with Lingcod eggs here on Whidbey. Sunflower Stars love Lingod eggs and will destroy egg mass in day or two. Lingcod male will grab and pull stars off, some males are better guardians then others. One male can have more then one nest in his territory, mayb...

Jan, I didn’t even think to look inside empty Giant Acorn Barnacle shells for Kelp Greenling eggs; it was evident that we were close to their nest I figured they were out of sight behind a rock. David K I went back yesterday, what a beautiful weather. Still silty, viz about 12 feet, Kelp Greenlings...

On Sunday I did two (2) 60min dives at Keystone Jetty, the viz was about the same as EUP. The Lingcod were behaving just fine, however we did see several Kelp Greenlings at the end of the jetty behaving defensively. Normally they are difficult to get close to, today they swam up to us as we approac...

And John, check out page 87, CN 22/23 :book: of Andy Lamb's Big Book and see if you think that's what we saw. It looks similar but not quite exactly right. I have to download photos tonight and I'll post when they're available. The books describes them as white crowned burrowing anemones from a spe...
