Saturday 4/2. T dock. First 12-15 feet was coffee with lots of cream then it opened up to 12 feet or so all the way down to 70 feet. Saw my first two Stubby Squid today. That made the trip over worth it right there.

4/2, Saltwater state park.

0 close to shore, 5 feet away from shore at 15-40 fsw, then it opened up to 20-25' at 60 fsw, which would have been a lot cooler if any light managed to get past the crap.

I didn't want to leave because I knew I'd be ascending into muck.

4/3 cove 2... green milk shallow to 40'. opened up a bit at 40'. don't know what it did deeper than that... ;) great for a 'bio-feedback' dive, feel your suit, feel your gear, listen to the gas traveling around in your wing, etc...

Didn't get any better at Cove 2 down to about 110', Laura ... I got lost twice today because I couldn't see much around me, and didn't recognize the patch of silt bottom directly underneath me. Today was the worst vis I've seen since last summer ...

Sund Rock, 4/5 1' down about 6-8', then opened up to 15-20' on both the north and south walls. Not murky enough on the surface to make it particularly dark at depth. Looks like Hood Canal is the place to be right now.

Algae bloom seems to be clearing up.

Sund Rock Monday evening 4/4,
5 - 10 feet from surface until 20 then 20 - 30. Not near as dark as Sunday.

Sunday afternoon 4/3
3 - 5 feet from surface down to 35 then 15 - 20. Very dark needed a light to see anything. Reminded me of a night dive.

I suspect we have a low O2 event starting. Fish were lethargic, Wolf eels seemed to "gasp" for air, and even found a Vermilion Rock at 40 fsw. I could touch the copper rock, black rock, and ling cod before they would swim away. Otherwise I could swim right up the them and even brush against the rock fish and they wouldn't move. It's like the fish were having a siesta!

Zee's reef and Maury Island barges today -- very nice viz, probably 20 or so, maybe a bit better at the barges. WAY better than the Coves were Monday through Wednesday.

It could always change by then. Last Tuesday the viz was at least 15'. You just never know what you'll find.

Fox Island West Wall yesterday, in spite of the wind and waves and rain, was a good 15-20 feet. Lots of nudibranchs out, but sadly, no octopuseseseses.

Sund Rock on the night of 4/13/2011.... from 0 inches to 3 feet to about 65fsw then it opened up to a whooping 3' to maybe 4'.

Heard from Ron Ault at HS&D that it had been that way for a few days, talked with him again this morning 4/14/2011 and said it's very much the same

Redondo today was about 15-20 feet around the pipe boat and over to the VW. Almost no critters out, though

Redondo was pretty light on the life. The octo was under the boat, saw a shrimp, 5-6 crabs, a nudi, handful of fish, a couple of joggers, and a bunch of folks in Salty's eating. It was a pretty clear 20 feet around 60-70 feet.

Skyline/Burrows Pass on Sat. 4/16 - 10 fuzzy feet. Beautiful sunny weather while Seattle was in light rain. Gad! I'm getting tired of the rain.
Inverts were modestly out. They often pull in significantly when there's a lot of fresh water mixed in like this which ruins the dive.
Nice, easy drift with a modest return.
Tulip festival traffic a bit of a problem in Everett and Mt. Vernon. You don't want to take the back road out of Mt. Vernon when the tulips are in bloom.

Sunday, April 17, evening slack ~6pm. Alki Junkyard.

AKA: Clam Sp00ging time. Vis was nearing 6" at times and water seemed ....saltier than normal.

when we entered the water, vis was easily 15+'. Little did we know what was to come.

On the bright side we did see the juvenile wolfie... :)

PT Whitney 4/18/11
Vis is better than Sund Rock area but not much.

Surface - 10, 30 plus rain water run off
11 - 60, three feet - maybe!
Below 60, opens up again to about 20 feet.

Note, PT Whitney is now posted, you'll need a vehicle use permit or risk a $66 fine.

Permits are included with combo fishing lic, or $14 per year, beginning 4/1 and ending 3/31.
Permits are available at any DFW vendor.

I was annoyed having to drive back to Brinnon to pick up the permit, then drive back and dive. :pirate:
Oh well, I have the permit and it's good until 3/31/12.
