That's one of my favorite camping/dive combos. It's a bit of a crap shoot. I choose a weekend based upon current predictions and then hope the weather cooperates. Low northerly winds are best to keep the entry surge free. I also am prepared to not go if the weather/winds aren't optimal. Don't think there's a better month as it's all too variable.
I've only had to get reservations during summer months when the campground is packed. Unless you're particular about getting a site near the dive sites. Good news is they do reservations online now. Before you had to mail in a check.

i'll keep monitoring this thread closely. I've wanted to dive there for ages but can't get buddies to camp and dive that far from home.
