Hi, all!
For those that don't know, I was in a nasty motorcycle accident a little over a year ago (you can read about the crash, my thoughts/philosophizing, and how I survived 4 months in hospitals and rehab facilities, at: http://bruceyates.blogspot.com/2016/06/ ... ctive.html).
Although I can dive again, starting next month, I won't ever dive cold water/dry suit again (too risky for my reconstructed pelvis). In fact, I'll probably list my two drysuits in the classifieds one of these days (if you're 6'5", 250-ish). My first time back in the water will be someplace warm and easy (e.g., Caymans), and we'll see how that goes...
I just thought I'd post this as a reminder not to take for granted how lucky you are to be able to do things you love - like diving - because there's no guarantee you'll still be able to do them a year from now. I'm VERY lucky - I can still dive (albeit in more limited conditions) - but if my crash had been just a little bit different (e.g., at 40MPH instead of 30MPH), I might never dive again, or walk, or even be alive.
Embrace every day!

Wow. I was out of the water for a couple of years myself, medical but a lot less severe and traumatic. Just last month I did a brief refresher dive here in the Sound, before a Cozumel cruise ship dive. I can say that the local dive, well it was kind of nerve-wracking and not the greatest. But the Cozumel warm water return, was wonderful. I hope your return is also as good!

I am currently out of the water from a simple ACL/medial meniscus repair. I can't imagine what you went through with that times a million! I am glad to hear you're on the mend and you can get back to diving in some form eventually.
Safe travels!

As a fellow motorcyclist, it was a tough read. I had a bad crash racing, and was laid up for 2 months.
What I went through pales in comparison, and wish you the best going forward.

Nothing wrong with Caymans, last few dives in our waters with such lousy visibility, I long for the tropics too.
I am glad that you made this much progress. I remember your first post-accident posting ...

Bruce: Having given up diving, climbing, and many other things, I realize how precious it all is. I am still struggling to walk after my last bout of injuries and surgeries. Continue to do all you can and take delight in the commonplace things: the company of your loved ones, the morning cup of coffee, the amazing world that we live in. Good luck.

Great attitude Bruce. Never give up living. You may dive again. Or, you may not. To quote that old song title: "The future is not ours to see". But, regardless, with that positive attitude you WILL succeed.
The only box you have to think outside of is the one you build around yourself.
