Stopped by Les Davis.Lobster Shop wall today, and snapped some pics showing some ridiculous topside visibility to at least 15 feet. Unfortunately my crappy camera phone soaks up the IR light bouncing off of the clouds, as I could see it like I was looking in a swimming pool, but here you go:

Jenn,

Thank you for the Sund Rock report :). I am heading up there tomorrow and I came here hoping someone had been in Hood Canal recently. Just what I needed!

Vis at the Muk last night was great in the shallows, got worse through about 40, then opened a little as you get deeper.

Which is exactly how Three Tree was last night as well.

A decent 15', but not crystal-clear (30'+) like it's been lately. This was approaching max current, of course.

Three Tree North, Monday the 13th, a solid 30'. Lots of particulate in the water, but still great viz.

Day Island And Sunrise were about the same as far as vis goes Exelent in the shallows (above 10 foot) so we were excited to start the dive. At 15-30fsw was terrible, 5 to 10 feet of vis. After going a bit deeper we might have had 20 to 30 feet of vis.

Watermans Wall on 4/18/09. Viz was poor on the top 40 feet. 7-10 FSW. Below 40 feet the viz was 15. Not very good for this dive. Lots of crud in the water and very green. Dove to 130 feet and no light was getting down.
Life can be short and dives even shorter. Time off work will put it all in perspective.

Did the Diamond Knot yesterday (Saturday 4/18). Viz was unbelievable - started out when I first dropped in at around 50 feet horizontally. As the exchange picked up, it got a little murkier, but it was definitely rockin' viz out on the peninsula! I didn't even need my can light at 125', which is pretty cool (and a good thing, as I forgot to flip the lid to engage the battery...)

Netarts Bay, Oregon 4/18 Saturday evening. Visibility was 5 - 10 feet, so a bit murky, but we had great weather on the surface and I had a nice time at the South Beach Scuba BBQ.

Linking up the trip report for anyone that is interested: http://www.nwdiveclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=7781.

Redondo 4-19-09

Vis was very murky down to ~30fsw depth (vis maybe 3-5fsw). After that, ~10-15ft vis down to 85fsw depth.
Green stuff starting to grow on the bottom from ~20fsw-40fsw.

Summer's here ... Redondo had it's first full-on plankton bloom of 2009 today.

Vis was less than 5 feet down to about 40 fsw, and opened up to almost 10 feet by the time I got to the bottle field.

Yuk ...

TTN, 4/22/09.......spring has sprung! Big-o-algae bloom! 2-5 ft down to about 40-45 ft, then it opened up to a whopping 10 ft maybe. Some places may have been a murky 12-15 ft but it was so dark from the crap filtering out the natural light that it was hard to tell. Sigh.....

Redondo about two hours after low tide around 2:00 4/24. The vis was 5' from surface to around 75fsw. Did manage to get a glimpse of octopus tentacle underneath something that I couldn't identify since the vis. was so bad.

4-24-09--Octopus hole, 5pm
first 10' vis was 10-15fsw....fairly decent, not too cloudy at all.
20-60' vis went to crap...MAYBE 5fsw at best and lots of particulate junk.... Hope this clears out soon.

Les Davis, 4PM Tide was coming in.

Viz was garbage. 3feet at best.
Got down to 30, and a current picked up. Never experienced that at les Davis. Lobster shop, yes.

Anyways, the current pulled us, and we ended up thumbing the dive. Trying again tomorrow at low tid/slack at noon.
