Admiral Sampson

Post by Romer Treece »

Our team went and dived the Admiral Sampson a couple times here recently and had two AWESOME dives. The surface conditions the first day were flat calm seas, with the second being a little rougher. We had a planned time of 25 minutes on the bottom with a total run-time of around 160 minutes. Our goal was to make it past the forward cabin, that was still standing (not so much anymore) and make it as far back as we could with the time allotted. We made it back to the boilers. The Metridium seemed a lot larger on the wreck this time than last, and we saw several HUGE Rockfish. We passed over several full sheets of metal with portholes still in them, (with the glass intact) and loose portholes everywhere. A FANTASTIC set of dives. Can't wait to go back!

Big thanks go out to Ron from Adventures Down Under for setting these dives up, Howie from Aluminator Charters, and our soon to be former safety diver BJ (Maverick). NIce job guys!! :smt038 :smt038

Kind of. BJ (Maverick) has a brand new full trimix card so he is passing the safety diver torch. He is now our "token" OC mix diver.
The down side is he did an awesome job as safety / support diver. He will be missed in that role.

nice video dan, where have you been hiding it?

howie and the aluminator
w/bj as a safety diver make it look easy
they hit right next to the wreck
from 335 feet away
off of a moving target

if bj can work up the nerve to turn on his air
securedownload.jpeg
he will be diving with us instead of watching this summer
(yes those are well used!!)
he has a trimix card, but he has to WANT it!!
i know the difference between right and wrong
wrong is usually the fun one

Mark T.

I originally wanted a guy named Mark T. for the interview but the wind was too noisy to hear him. Should have brought the dead rat.

Sorry dude, next time. :thumb3d:

Great vid thanks for sharing. I was trying to remember when that trip was. I kind of remember seeing something on their web site. The Admiral Sampson is one of my favorite wrecks out here.

Its one of my favorites as well . The list of people that have dove the Sampson is pretty small. When did you dive it last? We should compare notes sometime.

Beautiful and Awesome Dan, as always!!!!!!!!!!!

its videos like that, that keep me staying the course and building up my non-tech dives on the meg so that ...someday someday, i too will get to see her too :)

the wreck that dreams (specifically my dreams for the past 16 years) are made of ;)

Thanks for sharing the wonderful dive Dan!!!!!!!!!!!

It has been a long time and on OC, so I have never had all that much time to appreciate it.I have been wanting to go back to it on CCR so I can spend some time since I have been back here and hope to before I head back overseas. Hearld and I have been talking about diving it again soon. But I really want to check out the Alaskan supply barge at the north end of the inlet as I do not think anyone has dove it yet.

Up for a beer? PM me, I am in Everett.
