Light recommendation?

I've read a lot of threads talking about specific lights. I would like to hear suggestions that might fit my needs. As I've only been diving since the beginning of the year, this lovely summer is my first intro to the reality of what happens to viz in the PNW during the summer months. It's not going...

Re: UTD Essentials

Okay so is GUE and UTD related to each other? GUE Fundamentals vs. UTD Essentials or UTD Fundamentals :dontknow: I'm having a hard time believing that these questions are sincere attempts to gather knowlege, to be honest. :stir: Keith, you actually joined this site a few months before I did- heck, ...

Re: UTD Essentials

I just completed UTD essentials with Bdub and Jeanna Edgerton. What a great class! In a month, I feel like I have been given a huge boost towards becoming a competent solid diver. Lots of work to do mind you, but there has been a major change in my diving in the last 6 weeks. I can't recommend this...

The Best shot is when the camera is filming in front of him as he dives and falls down.. "That means the camera person had to be in front , falling faster, backwards, while trying to film the free fall, and get him in the shot... Crazy ... Cool film , really captured underwater Base Jumping .....

[...] A dive begins upon entry into the water and ends upon exit from the water. A Covered Dive must begin while Insurance is in force. That sux; I've heard a few stories about how DAN often covers more than you anticipate. I guess the line has to be drawn somewhere. When I think of the definition ...

Nice to be here!

I've been hanging around for a while and have felt comfortable opening my mouth a bit now and then, so I figure I better give an intro. #-o Hi, I'm Amy, a 30-something chick in Salem, OR. On somewhat of a whim, I started my PADI OW certification in November '09. Had some technical difficulties; self...

Re: How bad is the sting ?

I saw some jellies at Les Davis last Sunday morning. They weren't Lions Mane, but looked similar -- just not so robust. I came up between two about eight feet apart, saw another half dozen in the area. Trailing about 5 ft down. I love the little moon jellies... these guys squick me out. Not stung ye...

If only there were a way to silt up the pool so you could introduce students to the harsh realities of low viz before getting out in the open water. =-) But we can't. Wow. Wow. Wow. I think I sprained a heart muscle in my excitement when I read this! I have a fetish-like appreciation of abandoned buildings and other grandiose projects fallen out of favor, so the idea of >diving< a >missile silo<... wow. Sign me up! :breakdance:

Re: UTD Essentials Class

DBrown and I are registered for the June class, and I'm truly excited about fine-tuning my skills. I believe Mattleycrue76 described it in a way that clicked. "Your OW class should be subtitled 'How not to die.' Your AOW class is 'How to go deeper and not die.' Essentials is 'How to DIVE.'&quo...

Re: Simple needs.

If you've got two usable D rings you've got more than I do. Check it out: http://www.diversdirect.com/scuba-diving/oceanic-oceanpro-bcd/ . There are two rings very low, but anything else is actually on the end of a strap... and thus dangles so I don't use it. I think I may just put what I want on th...

Simple needs.

This is my first set of gear, a basic kit purchased as a package from my LDS in January right after cert and before my first dive trip; I'm going to put up with it for about a year and then reward myself with cooler toys. In the meantime, I have two wants/needs right now... 1. More D rings. I have a...

I went to Maui but what I REALLY learned...

I'm a fairly new diver (did OW class in November 09, dove Cozumel in January 10, got AOW and have been diving 1-2 a month cold water). We went to Maui for a few days earlier this month. After getting off the plane we did a night dive at Black Rock with Extended Horizons. The next morning we used the...

Re: Redondo 5/13

Great dive yesterday, lost sight of everyone at about 3fsw, saw bubbles and reflictive tape on their drysuits at about 10fsw and crashed into them on the bottom. We then unclustered ourselves and descended out of the split pea soup vis, and entered the turkey gravy vis. Headed generally north and s...
