Welcome Kayla to the board...I'm a newbie diver myself having just discovered this addiction....I'm south of you in Tacoma, but you have found a great place to meet lots of folks who are eager to share their passion (*ahem, PC for addiction) and knowledge with us newbies and even those around that ...

You will need extra weight no matter what type of dry suit you dive as opposed to diving wet. You will be wearing a fluffy undergarmet AND pumping air into your suit.... equals more weight required.
Dang how much weight would I need to add...now I see where bp/w setup comes in handy!
...

Do yourself a huge favor and try it on before buying. I have the CD4 and it is pretty stiff. I imagine the 6 mil is even harder. I like the crushed neoprene as it does keep me warmer BUT I have to be more careful handling it than my counterparts who are diving a shell. They can pretty much just wra...

D(B)
Doesn't the Navy employ divers? Seems to me there'd be some pretty cool opportunities out there in your "other" uncle's company... I thought about that too....But i have doubts regarding the whole crazy pt thing ( i think they go thru some of the seals training. im military so...

Re: So if i wanted a job as a diver....
"Why not?" Ah, the REAL question!!! Divers Institute of Technology costs close to 20K now. They say starting out as a diver, you make close to 70K plus a year. That's if you're a diver, not a tender, which you start out as for a couple of years. The salary quoted is also if you are offsho...

Re: So if i wanted a job as a diver....
One of the biggest syaing is the industry is "You don't have to know how to swim. That is just how you get to the job." Which means, if you can walk upright, you can follow a line down to the job, drag your tools in, and get to work. Now that being said... when you're standing on the bott...

Not exactly, but the op is curious.....Joshua Smith wrote:I dive a Shearwater GF- the old one that's about the size and shape of a cinder block. I love it, even though it's huge.
But the reasons I use it probably don't matter to the OP. You're in the market for one, I assume?

We saw this little guy at Redondo last night near the second reflector pile. Based on the description in Greg's book, looking at the hairs all over, the black-tipped claws and the general size - carapace between 1 and 1.5" - my ID is Cancer jordani , Hairy rock crab. How'd I do? tinycrab.jpg l...

In Oregon, they're full service too! If you have a hatchback, just put your valve tanks towards the back, hit the 'open' button and you don't even have to get out of your car! I haven't done it in the 4Runner, but I've done it in my little truck and in my wife's car. The key is just having the valv...

Yeah, but you have to pay cash or they charge you an extra $0.25 per cuft if you use credit/debit..... :angryfire: Unless you buy a Thirsty-Two ouncer.
